LSU Day has been postponed from its original date this Saturday until the fall semester because of inclement weather forecasts.
The National Weather Service’s forecast for Saturday calls for a 60 percent chance of rain with severe thunderstorms.
Though the LSU Day Web site originally stated the event would proceed rain or shine, the decision to postpone was made because of the possibility of severe weather like hail, lightning, damaging winds and tornadoes, according to an LSU Day news release.
“While the worst of the severe weather is expected early Saturday morning, ground conditions, including possible flash flooding, may hinder extensive set-up scheduled to take place late Friday into early Saturday,” the release said. “The safety of event staff and volunteers is of foremost importance to the University.”
The news release instructs volunteers to keep exhibit materials until the fall in the interest of cost efficiency.
Iftekhar Rouf, chairman of the Sesquicentennial Student Subcommittee, said the postponement is a potential problem because part of the cake for the subcommittee’s America’s Longest King Cake has already been baked.
Rouf said he plans to discuss options with University Relations, including using the already baked cake as dessert in the dining halls or holding the king cake event indoors Saturday.
