Former LSU first baseman Eddy Furniss will be inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame, the College Baseball Foundation announced late Thursday evening.
Furniss played at LSU from 1995-98 and won the 1998 Dick Howser Award as the nation’s top college baseball player. He is the Southeastern Conference’s all-time leader in hits (352), doubles (87), RBI (308), home runs (80) and total bases (689).
Furniss won two national championships — 1996 and 1997 — while playing under former coach Skip Bertman at LSU. Bertman was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006 in its inaugural class, and former LSU second baseman Todd Walker joined the hall in 2009.
Furniss will be inducted with nine other people, including former Alabama infielder Dave Madagan, former North Carolina catcher B.J. Surhoff and former Michigan pitcher/outfielder George Sisler.
LSU opens the 2010 season tonight at 7 p.m. when it hosts Centenary at Alex Box Stadium.
