The LSU baseball team’s win against McNeese State on Wednesday night came with a bittersweet ending.
On the heels of a 2-1 victory at Alex Box Stadium, coach Paul Mainieri announced junior pitcher Anthony Ranaudo will be scratched from his scheduled start this weekend against William and Mary because of a “stress reaction” in his elbow.
“He’s having discomfort in his elbow,” Mainieri said. “It has nothing to do with a ligament, which is what everybody thinks about with an elbow. The bone is a little bit irritated, not even when he’s throwing the ball, but when he takes the ball out of his glove and cocks his arm back.”
Mainieri said Ranaudo will not need Tommy John surgery, but he said he is unsure of how long Ranaudo will be unavailable.
To fill in for Ranaudo, junior Austin Ross will start Friday and sophomore Joey Bourgeois will start Saturday. Mainieri said Sunday’s starter is still to be determined.
