Student helps officers arrest man for felony theft using computer GPS
Officers arrested a 17-year-old man unaffiliated with the University on Oct. 11 for felony theft.
A student reported his backpack, containing a computer and books, stolen from Middleton Library, according to Det. Kevin Scott, LSU Police Department spokesman.
Scott said the student activated online tracking software on his stolen laptop, which led officers to the suspect.
Officers arrested Chris Bennett, of 4523 Evangeline St., for felony theft in the amount of $2,135, Scott said.
The majority of the stolen items were recovered, and Bennett was booked in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, Scott said.
Students arrested for stealing stop sign and overturning port-o-potty
Officers arrested two University students Oct. 15 for theft, criminal trespassing and criminal mischief.
Around 3:45 a.m., officers near Dalrymple Drive and West Lakeshore Drive saw two people holding a stop sign, Scott said.
Officers later discovered the sign had been taken from a construction site east of University High School, where a van window was broken and a port-o-potty was overturned, Scott said.
John Sampognaro, 19, of 4002 Deborah Drive, Monroe, and John Loomis, 20, of 124 Crescent Drive, Ferriday, were issued misdemeanor summonses and released, Scott said.
Man arrested for DWI, running stop sign and driving without license
Officers arrested a 19-year-old man unaffiliated with the University on Oct. 15 for DWI, running a stop sign and having no driver’s license.
Officers patrolling the area of West Lakeshore Drive and South Stadium Drive at 2:30 a.m. saw Landon Braud, of 38259 Oakleigh Lane, Prairieville, pass through the intersection without stopping at the stop sign, Scott said.
Scott said officers administered a field sobriety test, as Braud appeared intoxicated.
Braud tested with a 0.179 grams percent blood alcohol content and was booked in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, Scott said.
Tailgaiters arrested for disturbing the peace over winner of drinking games
Officers arrested three people unaffiliated with the University for fighting Oct. 16.
Officers responded to a fight on CEBA Lane and South Stadium Drive where two individuals were beating up a third, Scott said.
Jaime Moore, 28, of 112 Sunflower Drive, Lafayette, claimed she won a drinking game and insulted Timothy Hoke, 36, of 105 Belle Terre Blvd., Covington, Scott said.
Moore, Hoke and third participant Colin Wallace, 30, of 733 Fontainebleau Drive, were arrested for disturbing the peace and issued misdemeanor summonses, Scott said.
