The University of New Orleans is “working diligently” to find a new chancellor for its university, UNO Provost Joe M. King said in a broadcast message sent to students, faculty and staff Monday.
UNO has been without a chancellor since Tim Ryan was fired Sept. 16. LSU System President John Lombardi replaced Ryan on an interim basis.
King also told students that students, along with faculty, staff and alumni, will have their say in the process.
The prospect of further state budget cuts is casting a shadow of uncertainty across our campus, although we are working diligently to finalize plans that will ensure a strong future for UNO regardless of the budget situation. As you know, we are also engaging in the important task of searching for a new chancellor. I want to assure you that I, along with other members of the UNO administration, are making sure that faculty, staff, students and alumni have a voice in this process.
“We stand at an important crossroads in our 52-year history, and we all want what is best for this great university,” King said in his message. “Let’s be clear: what is good for UNO also benefits the city of New Orleans and the region.”
King also says he will regularly keep in touch with UNO students to keep them informed of the chancellor search.
Nominations for the chancellor search committee were due last week, King said.
King said committee members should be announced in the near future, which he hopes is by the end of the semester.
King said potential members of the committee will include “New Orleans civic leaders, UNO administrators, faculty and staff representatives, student leaders, UNO foundation members and alumni groups.”
Candidates for the committee will be turned into Lombardi.
