Students at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center earned the highest passage rate on the July 2010 Louisiana Bar Examination, according to the Committee on Bar Admissions for the Supreme Court of Louisiana.
Of the 151 University law students who took the bar exam, 116, or 76.8 percent, of the students passed, according to the report.
The University traditionally earns first place in passage rates in the state, said Law Center Director of Communications and External Relations Karen Soniat.
Since 1989, the University has ranked second place in passage rates only once, in 2004, Soniat said.
The Law Center primarily focuses on how passage rates compare to the overall passage rate of the state because the rates vary from year to year, Law Center Chancellor Jack Weiss said in a news release.
“Our pass rate using this relative measure also remains the highest in the state and is a tremendous credit to our students and faculty,” Weiss said in the release.
These results measure all students who took the bar exam in July and does not distinguish between first-time and repeat test takers.
“The statistic that matters is the bar passage rate of those who are taking the exam in July for the first time relative to the overall passage rate of all first-time takers of that exam,” Weiss said. “Today’s preliminary results include repeat takers and do not break out results for first -time takers only. It’s only an estimate, but I would expect our relative results among first-time takers to be somewhat higher than the preliminary numbers released today.”
