For the first time in three weeks, the No. 9 LSU football team ended a football game without drama.
The Tigers (7-0, 4-0) defeated McNeese State, 32-10, in routine, yet ugly, fashion Saturday in Tiger Stadium.
LSU mustered just 282 yards of total offense and once again struggled mightily in the passing game, throwing for a paltry 103 yards.
Leading the way for the Tigers offensively was redshirt freshman running back Michael Ford, who had a breakout performance with 88 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns. Ford’s final touchdown came from 36 yards out with just more than a minute remaining in the game.
The defense was highlighted by senior linebacker Kelvin Sheppard and senior defensive tackle Drake Nevis. Sheppard recorded 10 tackles and forced and recovered a fumble. Nevis had five total tackles and recorded a safety in the second quarter.
“Give credit to McNeese, they came in and fought hard,” said junior quarterback Jarrett Lee. “We’re going to move forward from this and prepare for next week. We can learn from this, but we did get a victory.”
The Tigers now begin to prepare for a colossal matchup next weekend when they travel to undefeated and seventh-ranked Auburn.
