LSU System President and Interim Chancellor of the University of New Orleans John Lombardi has reallocated more than $200,000 that was originally allocated to renovate campus executive offices, redirecting the funds to construction on the UNO University Center, according to a news release sent today.
Approximately $229,000 in federal hurricane relief funds have been assigned to repair damages that occurred to the University Center during Hurricane Katrina.
“The University Center was chosen because it is becoming more of a center of student life on campus,” UNO Provost Joe King wrote to Lombardi in an Oct. 1 memo.
Lombardi said in the release the redirection of funding was done for the sake of students.
“This is a smart move that directly benefits students rather than administrators,” Lombardi said.
