Volunteer LSU will hold its annual Volunteer Fair today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Student Union.
Director of Volunteer LSU Millena Williams said the fair is available to any University student, faculty or staff member.
About 40 different groups are registered for the event, and students will be able to walk from group to group, gathering information and making connections, Williams said.
She said the fair is open for groups in the community and on campus to provide students with volunteer opportunities and ways to benefit their communities.
Williams said she expects most of the fair’s visitors to be first-year students looking for ways to get involved on campus.
She said it’s a good opportunity for all students to learn more about chances to volunteer.
“A lot of times, students get comfortable on campus,” Williams said. “[The Volunteer Fair] makes them realize there’s a lot of stuff going on outside the gates of the University.”
Williams said Volunteer LSU has been extensively advertising the fair through organizations and broadcast e-mails. She said she hopes the extra publicity will cause this year’s fair to have a bigger turnout than in the past.
