Junior defender Allysha Chapman was named Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week after leading LSU to a pair of shutouts against No. 10 BYU and Louisiana-Lafayette, respectively.
Chapman, a 2009 second-team All-SEC selection, began the season as LSU’s defensive midfielder for the first four games of 2010 before moving to the back line.
Her switch to left back prior to the BYU match helped solidify a defense that didn’t give up a goal in 200 minutes of play last week.
Chapman is the first Tiger to be named Defensive Player of the Week since goalkeeper Mo Isom on Sept. 22, 2008. This selection marks the first time in program history that an LSU non-goalkeeper has received the award.
