The LSU football team finished the 2009 season at No. 17 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches top 25 polls.
LSU went 9-4 this season and earned a berth in the Capital One Bowl, falling to No. 8 Penn State, 19-17. The game marked a school-record 10th appearance in a row in bowl games for the Tigers.
LSU’s other three losses came to teams ranked in both final polls. Alabama finished No. 1 after defeating Texas, 37-21, in the BCS National Championship Game last night, while Florida finished No. 3 and Ole Miss finished No. 20 and 21, respectively.
LSU opens the 2010 season on Sept. 4 in the Georgia Dome against North Carolina.
