The No. 29 LSU men’s tennis team will be short handed this weekend when it travels to Tallahassee, Fla., for the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
Junior Julien Gauthier, who earned a preseason No. 101 singles ranking, suffered a left ankle sprain during practice this past weekend and will not travel with the team this weekend, sports information director Elizabeth Stuart said Tuesday afternoon.
Stuart said men’s tennis coach Jeff Brown and the training staff hope to have Gauthier, who was seen at practice Monday wearing a protective boot on his left foot, back Feb. 5 when the Tigers travel to Rice.
Gauthier was expected to be a force at the top of the lineup this spring and is likely to assume the No. 3 singles spot.
He was also partnered with junior Sebastian Carlsson in doubles where the duo posted a 7-3 this year.
The Repentigny, Canada native has career 34-37 record in singles.
