Rescue crews are continuing to search for LSU alumnus and former Chimes Restaurant bartender James de Brueys, who went missing off the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean.
De Brueys went missing Nov. 25 on a 13-foot fiberglass boat with three other people, including a pregnant woman. A U.S. Coast Guard official said one male body was recovered late Tuesday night but has not been identified, The Advocate reported Wednesday.
Steven de Brueys, LSU student and James de Brueys’ brother, said the Coast Guard called his family Tuesday afternoon and said the boat was found, overturned and empty.
Simone de Brueys, James’ sister, said Wednesday the family received word Tuesday the Coast Guard found an ice chest full of food floating in the water. The family believed the ice chest was with the passengers.
Simone de Brueys said “it’s not looking [too] positive right now” in a text message to The Daily Reveille Wednesday.
She said there will be an event Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at The Chimes to raise money for the family. T-shirts, manufactured by Storyville Tee Shirts, will be $20, and Simone said donations are welcome.
