LSU sophomore point guard Tremont Waters and freshman forward Naz Reid swept Southeastern Conference Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week after last week’s performances against Mississippi State and Auburn.
The Tigers beat Mississippi State 92-88 in overtime on Wednesday and Auburn 83-78 on Saturday to improve to 19-4 (9-1 SEC) on the season. Waters and Reid led double-digit comebacks in both games, and against the Bulldogs, the two combined for 50 of LSU’s 92 points. Reid scored seven of LSU’s nine points in overtime, including a career-high 29 points, and made the game-clinching three-pointer off an assist by Waters.
In the two games Waters averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 assists, 5 steals and 3.5 rebounds, while Reid scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds per game, and both players had double-doubles against Auburn.
This the first time each player have won weekly SEC honors this season. LSU returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Rupp Arena to face No. 5 Kentucky (20-3, 9-1).
