After a less-than-resounding win against No. 8 Cal, fourth-ranked LSU are looking forward as they take on No. 17 Auburn at the Auburn Arena for the first SEC matchup of both their seasons.

LSU is following up after failing to reach a score of 197 for the first time in years, and while the Tigers did win the meet, there are many things that must be improved in order to continue the season as desired.

“We have to take every experience and move forward from there, that way we will be the best team we can be,” said LSU coach D-D Breaux.

While Auburn will be not only the first SEC matchup and away meet, the environment in the Auburn Arena is a lot less welcoming than that of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The arena is much smaller than the PMAC and the fans are much closer, making it a more hostile environment.

“The fans tend to cheer against the visiting team rather than for the home team,” Breaux said.

In past seasons, Breaux has even taken it so far as to go sit with the Auburn fans in order to calm the fans down and ensure that her girls are being treated fairly and most importantly being safe.

After this week of training, the Tigers are looking healthier and better as they prepare for this business trip to Auburn, focusing on vaulting and make sure to clean that up before Friday.

Senior all-arounder Sarah Finnegan is excited for this meet and thinks it will help the team as a whole, especially the freshman.

“We look forward to road trips, it’s always a great time,” Finnegan said. “I think our team is a lot of fun so we take advantage of that on the road and getting used to the environments.”

While Auburn is coming off of a 194.825-193.225 victory against the Iowa Hawkeyes in Week 1, Breaux believes the Tigers are ready to make the improvements needed and get another win under their belt.

“We travel better than any team in the country if not better,” Breaux says. “I think the fact that the kids will be rested when they get there, that they will be ready for this competition.”
