Following two consecutive second place finishes at the Blessings Invitational and The Ally, the women’s golf team is ranked No. 2 in the nation by Golfweek.
Golfweek Team Rankings
On Monday, Golfweek released their rankings for women’s collegiate golf. The positions were adjusted to include their strength of schedule and power rankings, which is calculated using a team’s record, stroke differential and connection to all the other teams in the database.
The two tournaments the Lady Tigers have competed in this fall season are rated as the two hardest tournaments in collegiate golf, yielding a collective score of 72.24: 71.90 for the Blessings Invitational and 72.24 for the Ally. These tournaments have been regarded as top-notch competitions that resemble SEC championships.
LSU fell short of the No. 1 ranking by a mere .09 point to South Carolina, who recently won the Ally Tournament in Mississippi.
Following the 2019-20 season, the women’s team was ranked 12th by Golfweek. At the Blessings Invitational LSU finished in second with a collective score of 18-over, which beat third place South Carolina by a three-stroke margin. After a stellar performance in Arkansas LSU was ranked 13th.
However, following the second-place finish in The Ally, the women’s squad boosted to second place.
Golfweek also released individual collegiate women golf rankings as well.
Golfweek Individual Rankings
Sophomore Ingrid Linblad, following an impressive freshman season, has climbed her way to second place. Lindblad, before the season had begun in September, said she believes that her goal of becoming the No. 1 ranked golfer is not unrealistic, but rather fitting.
Lindblad placed second at the Blessings Invitational and tied for third at The Ally.
Sophomore Latanna Stone has also had tremendous success during this condescended fall season. She has risen to No. 13.
Another notable mention is freshman Carla Tejeda Mulet who is ranked No. 24. Mulet has been performing well with the lady’s team as she is adjusting to her new home her in Louisiana. Mulet finished tied for 7th at The Ally and tied for 26th at the Blessings Invitational.
The women’s team will head to Athens, Georgia on Nov. 6 to compete in the Liz Murphy Classic for the final tournament of the fall season.
It is not outlandish to conclude that there is a likelihood that there will be three tigers ranked among the top ten players in the nation following the fall season.
