LSU Head Coach Will Wade held his final press conference with the media before the team travels to play at Utah in the Tigers’ second round NIT match.
“They’re a good ball club. It’ll be a big challenge for us, especially on the road,” LSU Head Coach Will Wade said of the upcoming game.
The Tigers go to Utah with key players dealing with lingering injuries. Guard Tremont Waters had surgery Monday to fix his nose, forward Aaron Epps practices every two to three days, and guard Skylar Mays sits out practice, while keeping his right hand taped. Tigers’ forward Duop Reath can still practice, but LSU may be without Brandon Rachal for a second straight game. Coach Wade found out about his playing status on the day of LSU’s game against ULL.
“I wish I could tell you more, but I can’t. I knew at 1:24 p.m. I was in shoot around. I got a text message when I was in shoot around.”
Of course, the Tigers’ still played the Cajuns March 14th in a 84-76 win, and Coach Wade says it was the first time the team faced adversity properly.
“It’s the first time, when it got hot in the kitchen, we didn’t necessarily run out. That’s the first time in a while we’ve stayed in there and fought the fire, and you’ve got to be able to do that on the road.”
LSU’s game at Utah is Monday, March 19th, and Coach Wade approves of the new NIT rule changes, which include four quarters rather than two halves.
“I just think the game flows a little bit better. There’s a little more strategy involved at the end of the quarters. You can get a few more possessions in if you go 2-for-1. I think it helps the game. I think they’re are more natural breaks.”
Although LSU and ULL had an intense game, Coach Wade isn’t closed to the idea of playing them again.
“It has to be good for LSU. Period. My job is to put LSU in the best situation for success, and whoever helps LSU be successful then that’s what we’ll do.”
“There’s no real easy comparison in the SEC to what they do,” LSU Head Coach Will Wade on Utah
