The Tigers beat Tulane 10-4 Wednesday night and will face Vanderbilt in Nashville for a series this weekend.
After outfielder Zach Watson’ impressive performance at the plate against the Green Wave, Mainieri had some kind words to say about him.
“Anybody that follows LSU baseball can see the obvious-we’re a much better team when Zach Watson is playing for us,” said the coach.
In regards to the players traveling with the team to Nashville, Mainieri says, “If I’m taking them, they gotta be ready to play.”
Coach Paul Mainieri spoke about the level of play not only at LSU but in the SEC. Mainieri thinks playing every team in the conference each season would be a way to “have a true champion” and says he proposes a 39-game conference schedule.
The coach said, “I wish we could play everybody, but I don’t make the rules so we just play who they tell us to play.”
The Tigers will face UL-Lafayette on Tuesday and then Mississippi State in a series the following weekend.
