The shrine on airline was host to the first annual Tyrann Mathieu kickball classic where fun and festivities took place. And although the charity even was full of fun and games, the Tigers and savages made things rather..interesting as the game progressed.
“I think it’s going to get competitive real quick. I think people are going to kind of ease into it but then our athletes’ instincts are going to kick in,” Olympian and former LSU track star Lolo Jones said about the event’s competitive nature.
Jones was correct as many participants wanted the heralded MVP trophy.
“I’m going to put my money on me. I’m betting on me,” former LSU defensive end Arden Key commented.
“Turk said he’s trying to get it, but I’ll be the dark horse. I ain’t going to say to much, but I’m going to try to go for that,” Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen noted.
“C’mon man ME. ME. MEE,” former LSU and current New York Jets safety Jamal Adams exclaimed.
New Orleans basketball phenom Jaliyah Manuel walked away with the MVP trophy, but Mathieu was happy to help athletes come together for the event. Participants also enjoyed giving back to the community.
“I’m just trying to use my foundation to not only inspire kids but to bring groups of people together,” Mathieu said.
“It feels great. I’m literally from this area. My mom probably stays five minutes from this stadium It actually feels better just to come and be in front of people who’ve been watching me since high school and college. It feels good to be out here though,” former LSU defensive back Donte Jackson said.
The Tigers, Mathieu’s team, walked away with a 2-0 victory but Mathieu hopes that next year he can find a team that can beat his.
