LSU won its SEC opener agianst Missouri on March 16th, but LSU’s offense struggled, going four straight innings without a run after scoring the three runs in the first three innings.
” I think we made it more difficult than it had to be. We just had so many chances to break the game open. We’ve got to be better than that,” LSU Head Coach Paul Mainieir said.
LSU went 0-for-10 in the game with runners in scoring position until Zach Watson got a hit in the eighth inning to give LSU its fourth run of the night.
“Fortunate for us, Watson stepped up for us and got a big hit to just give us a little bit of breathing room there in the ninth inning and that was huge,” Coach Mainieir said .
Starting pitcher Zack Hess pitched over six innings, but he began to falter in the seventh, walking three straight pitchers.
“He was terrific. I told him ‘just flush that seventh inning from your mind because for six innings you were absolutely dominant out there.'”
LSU continues its weekend series against Missouri Saturday, March 17th. First pitch is 6 p.m.
“He proved he’s a Friday night starter for the SEC,” Paul Mainieri on Zack Hess in LSU 4-2 win
