LSU sophomore Noah Remmert received a call Sunday night around 9:00 p.m from his mom who told him a bomb had exploded in their neighborhood. The bomb severely injured their neighbors: 2 men in their 20’s.
The bomb exploded when the two victims either stepped on or kicked a tripwire. They were walking on a sidewalk near their home in the Travis County neighborhood of Austin.
Fred Milanowski, an agent at the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Office in Austin, said the terrifying thing about the use of a tripwire is that anyone could have triggered it, including kids who also live in the area.
Milanowski said the wire could have been a fishing line that is hard to spot.
Noah’s family knew the two men personally, but authorities have asked them not to reveal their names due to the ongoing investigation.
“My parents or anybody else in the neighborhood who figured out somehow, just because of the proximity, they’re not allowed to tell and spread people the names yet just cause it’s so recent. We live on the other side of the neighborhood from where it happened, but we know people on that side of the neighborhood, and they said it was very loud and scary and sudden, so it was pretty intense for them, I think.”
Police are asking residents in the Travis County neighborhood for their surveillance camera footage, if they have one.
