“I didn’t scream at first, but I was just like ‘wow, my name just got picked,'” former LSU guard Raigyne Louis said when she saw the Las Vegas Aces draft her in the third round of the WNBA draft.
The Aces was a surprise pick for Louis. The former San Antonio team was not on any projection or mock draft.
“I’ve been keeping in contact with my agent. That wasn’t the team that I thought was looking at me,” Louis said.
Louis is the first LSU player drafted since the Tulsa Shock drafted Theresa Plaisance in the third round of the 2014 draft, and Louis will be the third player under coach Nikki Fargas to play in the WNBA.
“It’s a dream come true to have your name out there on the board in the WNBA and getting drafted. It’s just a blessing to be a part of something so big and to leave my legacy at LSU.”
Louis won’t be the only Southeastern Conference player to join the Aces in the 2018 draft. The Las Vegas franchise also drafted Tennessee guard Jaime Nared and South Carolina forward A’Ja Wilson.
“In the SEC, we know how it is to compete day-in, day-out,” Louis said.
