The Louisiana House Education Committee advanced a pair of bills to the floor for debate that would make fewer students eligible for the TOPS award.
TigerTV’s Kennedi Walker explains who could be affected if the bills become a law.
“Hey guys, I’m here at the State Capitol where the Louisiana House Education Committee moved forward with two bills related to TOPS.
Now, Representative Garofolo’s bill would require most students who fail out of school who were on TOPS to pay their award back. The bill passed 8-5.
The committee also approved a bill to raise requirements for maintaining TOPS.”
Right now, students have to maintain a 2.3 GPA through their first 24 credit hours and a 2.5 after 48.
Under the proposal, students would have to maintain a GPA one quarter of a point higher than the current requirements to keep their scholarships.
