Beginning this fall, incoming first year students will be required to live on campus. The decision to require first year students to live on campus was not made quickly. It was approved by the LSU Board of Supervisors in 2008.
“We would have had to remove upperclassmen from campus to make room for all the first year students, and we didn’t want to do that to upperclassmen that wanted to live on campus,” LSU residential life communications and development associative director Catherine David said.
David continued saying, “this fall with Nicholson gateway opening up for upperclassmen and with spruce hall opening up for first year students we have adequate bed space open up for all the first year students as well as upperclassmen who want to stay on campus.”
At LSU and nationally, data shows that students who live on campus their first year are more involved and deeply connected to their university.
