Raigyne Louis has only been to Las Vegas once in her life – earlier this season for the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout – but she’ll be moving there on April 25.
The former Lady Tigers guard was picked by the Las Vegas Aces with the first pick of the third round of the WNBA Draft Thursday night.
“I didn’t scream at first,” Louis said. “I was just like ‘Wow my name just got picked.’ Kind of like stunned a little bit and it all just hit me. I started getting excited about it. Its just a blessing. I’m giving all the glory to God for this opportunity.”
Louis becomes the 18th player in program history to be drafted and the first Lady Tiger to be be selected since Theresa Plaisance went in the third round in 2014.
“I actually got a text from [Theresa Plaisance] congratulating me,” Louis said. “Its a dream come true to have your name up there on the board as a WNBA draft pick. Its just a blessing to be apart of something so big and to leave my legacy here at LSU.”
Louis, two-time All-Southeastern Conference Selection and 2016-17 SEC Defensive Player of the Year, has made her mark at LSU.
She is only the 10th player in LSU history with at least 1,600 points scored, the 14th with over 700 rebounds, the 13th with 300 assists and the third with 275 steals.
She is also the only Lady Tiger to finish her collegiate career with over 1,600 points, 700 rebounds, 300 assists and 250 steals. She recorded 1,681 points, 726 boards, 355 assists and 298 steals.
She posted 11 double-doubles in her career and 93 double-figure scoring games.
Off the court, she was selected to the 2018 SEC Women’s Basketball Community Service Team. With an upcoming degree in electrical engineering, she built a basketball shooting machine for a child with cerebral palsy for her senior project.
“All I can do is give all the glory to God,” Louis said. “I don’t think it’s hit me yet because I’m still trying to work on graduating. When I saw my name called, it was just an emotional feeling. I was praying for that all week, just to have my name called.”
