The Purple team defeated the White team 28-27 in LSU’s 2018 spring game, and quarterback play was a difference maker. 
Justin McMillan stood out for the the the White team, and LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron took note of the junior quarterback. “I thought Justin McMillan tonight had a good game. I thought he extended plays with his feet. When he was in, he moved the football,” Coach Orgeron said of McMillan’s play.
McMillan did well, but Coach Orgeron also said the play between McMillan, Myles Brennan and Lowell Narcisse was consistent from what he saw in spring camp. 
“I think you’ve all seen tonight what I’ve been telling you about the quarterbacks. Sometimes, they’re doing well. Sometimes, they’re not.”
Many of the quarterbacks’ throws were deep down field, and Orgeron said the team wants to incorporate the deep pass into the team’s offense. 
“We’d love to do that. We want to hit them deep, especially when we get one-on-one coverage, and we’ve got some quarterbacks that can scramble. We’ve got guys that can extend plays with their feet, and they have strong arms to throw the ball downfield. That’s what you saw tonight.”
Although Orgeron enjoys the quarterbacks’ abilities to move with their feet, he doesn’t want them to have to do so because of pressure. 
“Our protection needs to get better. There’s a couple of new guys. They’re going to need help with protection. We have to chip. We have to double team some guys. I thought it was a disadvantage sometimes with outside rushers on the new guys so we have to be creative in our protection, but it is an advantage that those guys can extend plays with their feet.”
Defensively, both teams held each other in check, but even when both team’s offenses opened up, K’Lavon Chaisson continued to have a great spring performance. 
“If we’d have called sacks, he’d have had about five sacks, and rushing wise, he was getting a lot of one-on-ones. He’s had a good spring. He was in Arden’s [Key] shadow, and he has matured,” Coach Orgeron commented.
Regardless, Coach Orgeron sees many areas for development the team must work on over the summer. 
“We saw some guys make a lot of mistakes: jumping off-sides, bad snaps, fumbled snaps, guys going the wrong way. I’m sure, when we watch the film, there’ll be some mistakes on defense.”
