ST. LOUIS — LSU gymnastics is off to its third-straight Super Six after a 197.4750 in Semifinal I on Friday.
LSU put up a strong performance, despite placing second to UCLA’s 197.5625.
The Tigers began the semifinal on beam, where it finished the regular season ranked third in the nation.
LSU started off strong with leadoff performances from senior all-arounders Erin Macadaeg and Myia Hambrick, scoring 9.8125 and 9.8625, respectively.
Then freshman all-arounder Christina Desiderio fell off the beam in the fourth spot and LSU found themselves in a hole.
Fellow freshman Reagan Campbell stepped up, scoring 9.85, leading the way for junior Sarah Finnegan to put up a 9.90 in the anchor spot and giving LSU the lead after the first rotation.
LSU’s first-ranked floor lineup wasted no time pulling the Tigers ahead.
Hambrick and sophomore all-arounder Kennedi Edney posted a 9.95 and 9.90, respectively, as the Tigers totaled 49.400 for the second-highest floor score of Semifinal I.
The Tigers posted solid scores on vault, but no LSU gymnast scored higher than a 9.8875 on the event. Both Edney and junior Julianna Cannamela posted 9.8875s.
LSU totaled a 49.3500 team vault score, pushing them into second place behind UCLA going into the final rotations.
The Tigers came up big on uneven bars with a team score of 49.500 to push their overall score to 197.4750.
Hambrick, Edney and Finnegan put up impressive all-around performances, placing second, third and fourth, respectively.
The Tigers will compete in the Super Six on Saturday, April 21, at 6 p.m.
