The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office held its Evening of Remembrance Tuesday night. Dedicated to family members, and loved ones, of homicides victims.
The annual event honored those grieving the loss of someone killed in the last 14 months with 125 names being read.
EBR Sheriff Sid Gautreaux and Baton Rouge Police Lieutenant Jonny Dunham say the event is aimed at helping the community cope.
Last year East Baton Rouge saw a record number of homicides. The coroner’s office investigated 124 homicide deaths in 2017 compared to 84 in 2016.
