LSU juniors Sarah Finnegan and Lexie Priessman and freshman Christina Desiderio swept the Southeastern Conference weekly honors following the Tigers’ back-to-back 198s over the weekend.
Finnegan was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week for the third time this season.
Finnegan took home event titles once on bars and twice on beam this weekend. Friday night, at the GymQuarters Invitational, she scored 9.95s or higher in all four events for a career high all-around score of 39.775.
While Finnegan rested on Sunday against Texas Woman’s University, she still scored a 9.95 on bars and 9.90 on beam.
Finnegan is ranked No. 3 in the country in the all-around, No. 5 in both beam and bars and No. 12 on floor.
Priessman was named SEC Specialist of the Week after posting three career highs over the weekend.
She tied her career high on bars at GymQuarters at 9.95 and set a new high against Texas Woman’s at 9.975. She also anchored floor for the first time in her career with a career high of 9.95.
Desiderio is the second LSU freshman to be named SEC Freshman of the Week, joining all-arounder Sami Durante.
She tied her career high twice on beam, posting 9.90s and set another career high of 9.875 on floor. Desiderio’s 9.90 on beam against Texas Woman’s secured her first career event title.
LSU gymnasts now own nine SEC weekly honors in 2018.
The LSU gymnastics team put on its finest performances of the season this weekend, posting back-to-back score of 198-plus for the first time in program history. The Tigers now own the highest team score in the nation at 198.175 and the highest bars score at 49.725.
No. 2 LSU returns to action on Friday as they travel to Athens to take on Georgia at 6 p.m.
