Louisiana and other southern states have experienced an unusually snowy winter twice this season.
Professor Jill Trepanier specializes in atmospheric Geography at LSU and she described a bit of what occured down south this year.
Trepanier described these weather changes that occured this year while projecting a weather map on a screen. When the weather from the north blows down to the south, Louisiana and other southern states experience a dramatic weather change.
LSU student Ashlyn Hindrichs said “It was nice having a break off from school, but on the other hand she was going stir crazy from staying inside.”
The main reason for the two louisiana snow falls this year, are a result from water vapor in the atmosphere reacting with the jet stream, which is the upper level band of fast moving air.
There is a chance that this cold, snowy weather can occur next year or even the years after. Over the next few weeks louisiana should not be expecting any more snow, or time off from school because of freezing.
“I actually like the cold weather,” Hindrichs said. “So I am very happy with the temperature that it is now.”
This snowy weather louisiana has experienced always has a chance to happen every winter season. The water vapor levels are what make it possible for snow to fall.
While it is doubtful that Louisiana will have too many more snow days this year, some people can still dream of a winter wonderland.
