U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Last week had us on edge until Friday, when Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was released from the hospital after fracturing three ribs when she fell in her office on Nov. 8. To calm our nerves, we watched “RBG,” a documentary detailing Ginsburg’s rise to the Supreme Court and branding as a pop culture icon. Now, we’re anxiously awaiting “On the Basis of Sex,” a forthcoming film depicting the first gender discrimination case Ginsburg argued before the Supreme Court. The biopic, starring Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer, is set to release on Dec. 25. “RBG” is available for streaming on Hulu and Amazon Prime.
“Heavyweight” podcast by Gimlet Media
We’re big fans of “Heavyweight,” a podcast hosted by Jonathan Goldstein who “backpedals his way into the past like a therapist with a time machine.” Season three of the podcast is still in the works, but seasons one and two are available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. If you’ve never listened to “Heavyweight” before, check out the producer’s favorites: “Jesse,” “Julia,” “Gregor” and “Buzz.” All of the episodes are also available for listening on Youtube. The Year of the Woman
Election Day was Nov. 6, and like many predicted, 2018 is the “Year of the Woman” with a record number of women elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Among our favorites, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 29-year-old woman from the Bronx elected to New York’s 14th Congressional District, is the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. Others include, Carol Miller of West Virginia’s third district, one of the few newly elected Republican women; Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, the first Muslim American women elected to Congress; and Sharice Davids and Deb Haaland, the first Native American women elected to Congress. Political beliefs aside, these women are an inspiration to us all, and we’re definitely going to study a little bit harder this week to do them proud.

Rowling’s wizarding world, the second installment of the “Fantastic Beasts” series premieres this week starring Eddie Redmayne and Johnny Depp. Dying to see the movie, but too broke to buy the $10 ticket?
