LSU dominated in all three phases of the game as the Tigers upset No. 2 Georgia in front of a packed Death Valley. 
In front of 102,321 people, LSU shut down Georgia to win 36-16 Saturday.
LSU went three and out on its first drive of the game after junior quarterback Joe Burrow was sacked on the third play of the game, but the rest of the game did not proceed the same way.
Georgia had a chance to score early, when receiver Mecole Hardman was wide open down field, but quarterback Jake Fromm over threw him and forced the Bulldogs to punt.
LSU got on the board first. 
Freshman defensive-back-turned-receiver Jontre Kirkland got his first taste of action on a five yard completion. Burrow then hit freshman receiver Terrace Marshall for on a six yard slant for the first down. 
Senior running back Nick Brossette broke tackles for a 12-yard gain and another first down. The highlight of the drive was Burrow hitting Marshall along the sideline for 37-yard to put the Tigers in the red zone. The LSU offense was not able to do much from there, bring out kicker Cole Tracy who hit a 33-yard field goal to put the Tigers up 3-0. 
Georgia wasted no time bouncing back. 
The Bulldogs’ one-two punch in the backfield of D’Andre Swift and Elijah Holyfield hammered down the LSU defense. Swift ran for back to back runs of 12 and 18 yards, while Holyfield ran for 17 and 7 yards.
Georgia then went vintage Les Miles and tried to fake a field goal. Sophomore safety Grant Delpit and junior linebacker Devin White saw it coming and tackled Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship for a loss of two yards. Delpit forced a fumble and LSU recovered to take over at its own 16-yard line. 
Burrow hit tight end Foster Moreau up the middle for a 12 yard-completion and a first down. Sophomore running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire then broke for 47 yards on third and short, leaving LSU with first and goal to start the second quarter. 
Brossette ran the ball a series of times but was short of the goal line. One fourth and short later, Burrow kept the ball and rushed for a 1-yard touchdown to put the Tigers up 10-0. 
Georgia went three and out on the next drive. 
On the first play of the following drive, sophomore receiver Justin Jefferson was wide open downfield and Burrow hit him for a 50-yard gain to put LSU in the red zone. The Tigers failed convert for another first down and Tracy hit a 36-yard field goal to put LSU up 13-0. 
Georgia goes three and out again. 
LSU went for it on fourth down twice on the following drive. Burrow rushed for 8 yards on third down and was short of the first, he kept it again on fourth and short for the first down. 
Two completions of six yards to junior Stephen Sullivan and nine yards to junior Derrick Dillon put LSU well into Georgia territory. On another fourth and short, LSU sent Edwards-Helaire this time for a gain of 20 yards. The drive was then stalled by a holding penalty and sack, and LSU sent out Tracy for the third time. Tracy hit a 39-yarder to put LSU up 16-0.  
Three and out for Georgia again and LSU kneels to end the second quarter. 
Georgia finally got on the board at the start of the second half. Fromm completed four consecutive passes of 13, 15, 14 and 9 yards to put in good field position. With Georgia deep in LSU territory to start the second half, junior edge rusher Michael Divinity broke through the Bulldogs’ offensive line to sack Fromm and limit them to a field goal. 
LSU was forced to punt on its first drive of the second half, even after putting up two third down conversions on the drive. Josh Growden’s punt was down at the 4-yard line. 
On third and 10, Fromm attempted a pass in close coverage and LSU junior cornerback Kristian Fulton came up with his first career interception. 
The LSU offense took over at the Georgia 25-yard line. Despite another fourth down conversion, the Tigers were unable to reach the end zone, and Tracy hit a 24-yard field goal to extend LSU’s lead to 19-3
Georgia finally made its way into the endzone at the end of the third quarter on a seven-play, 75-yard drive capped off with a 10-yard Holyfield touchdown run, cutting LSU’s lead to 19-9. 
Georgia Mecole Hardman returned a punt 27 yards to the LSU 38-yard line after an LSU three and out, but the Tiger defense would not allow the Bulldogs to do much. On third and six, sophomore safety JaCoby Stevens came up big with his first career sack for a loss of 9 yards. 
LSU’s next drive was only six plays but went for 86 yards and a 1-yard touchdown run on the keeper by Burrow. The next drive with a 19 yard run by Edwards-Helaire. Burrow then hit fullback Tory Carter for a 10-yard gain. 
Burrow and Jefferson continued to show their connection when the quarterback hit him for a 36 yard to put LSU deep into Georgia territory. Edwards-Helaire broke free for another long run, this time for 16 yards to give LSU a clear opening for Burrow’s touchdown.
On the kickoff, senior safety Ed Paris forced a fumble, which freshman walk-on kicker Avery Atkins recovered at the Georgia 14-yard line. 
After three runs by Brossette wasn’t enough for a first down, Cole Tracy hit his fifth field goal of the day from 30 yards. LSU lead 29-9 with seven minutes left in the game. 
Georgia wasn’t going down without a fight. Fromm hit receiver Riley Ridley for a 27-yard touchdown reception, cutting LSU’s lead to 29-16. 
In response, LSU put up a touchdown of its own. Brossette broke for an 11 yard run to start the drive before Burrow pulled a 59 yard run of his own, putting the Tigers at the four-yard line where Brossette walked it in to put LSU up 36-16.
An interception by senior safety John Battle sealed the game for LSU.
