LSU basketball will enter the season at No. 23, according to the AP Preseason Poll released Monday.
It is the first time the Tigers have been ranked in the Top 25 since the first few weeks of the 2015 season that featured Ben Simmons and Antonio Blakeney. It’s also the 13th time LSU has been listed in the AP Top 25 preseason poll with the highest ranking coming in 1990, Shaquille O’Neal’s freshman year that featured Stanley Roberts and Chris Jackson, where LSU was ranked No. 2 in the country.
Other SEC teams in the Top 25 include Kentucky at No. 2, Tennessee at No. 6, Auburn at No. 11 and Mississippi State at No. 18.
The Tigers were ranked No. 16 by ESPN heading into a season with one of the top recruiting classes in the country with forwards Naz Reid, Emmitt Williams and Darius Days as well as guard Ja’Vonte Smart.
LSU also returns guards Tremont Waters, who led SEC freshman in steals and assists last season, as well as Skylar Mays and Daryl Edwards.
