Head coach Will Wade and several of his players have made one thing very clear: a National Invitation Tournament bid will not be good enough for this season.
The Tigers come into this season with the No. 3 freshmen class in the country. Some national polls have ranked the team in the top 25.
“We definitely don’t expect to be in the NIT,” junior guard Skylar Mays says.
“NIT will not cut it,” sophomore guard Tremont Waters says. “That’s a flat out statement. We better not be in the NIT.”
Last season ended in the NIT with a second-round loss to the Utah Utes.
The last time the Tigers made the NCAA tournament was in 2015.
The 2018-2019 campaign begins on Nov. 6 against Southeastern Louisiana at 7:30 p.m. at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
