The Tigers beat La.Tech 38-21 on Saturday in Death Valley, but it was a fight to the finish line on defense and Coach O was not pleased.
In his first full season as the Tigers head coach, Orgeron was disappointed that his team game up a 24 to 0 lead coming out of the half.
“We didn’t come out of the second half ready to go,” Orgeron said.”The guys just didn’t play well, they made some big plays and big throws and we kept on fighting, and we won the game but it wasn’t good enough.”
Senior Tight End Foster Moreau added that it wasn’t just the lack of defense but that the four penalities for 45 yards hurt them.
“A penalty put us behind the stick,” Moreau said.”We march down the field on anyone, I think this team is good enough.”
Orgeron also wasn’t happy with Tigers lack of defense throughout the game, but is ready to work on what needs to be fixed in practice.
“I’m not happy, we’re going to look at the presser, see who’s rushing, and we’re going to see what coverages we need to run,” Orgeron said.
Junior Defensive End Breiden Fehoko found the communication on defense to be a problem.
“When we’re out there, the groud is loud, we have to figure out how to communicate with eachother,” Fehoko said.
Not only was Orgeron disappointed in how the Tigers played defense, but he also thinks that a level of maturity is needed in order to start and finish strong in games.
“We have to be mature and finish,” Orgeron said.”We have to have the guys have a killer instinct, they have to smell blood in the water and go get it,” Orgeron said.
The Tigers will have a week to prepare before they face their second SEC opponet of the season in Ole Miss.
The game will be telvised on ESPN at 8:15 p.m. CT
