Tiger Stadium will enhance its security for the 2018 season by adding metal detectors to select entrances, the university announced Wednesday. 
It will be part of a pilot programs that helps LSU prepare for a Southeastern Conference mandate to have full stadium coverage in 2020. 
Fifteen metal detectors will be added to the south side of Tiger Stadium at Gates 23-28. Fans will have to remove phones, computers, tablets and cameras from their pockets before walking through the metal detector and scanning their tickets. 
“Providing a safe environment along with creating a great fan experience is what we are striving for,” LSU Associate Athletic Director for Communications Michael Bonnette said in a press release. “This year’s pilot program using 15 metal detectors gives us an opportunity to educate our fans on what the process will be like when entering Tiger Stadium in the future.”
Metal detectors are being added in conjunction with LSU’s “Geaux Clear” policy. The clear bag policy allows for clear bags smaller than 12” x 6” x 12” or gallon sized freezer bags. 
Diaper bags and backpacks are still not allowed in Tiger Stadium. Small clutch purses are allowed, as long as they 4.5″ x 6.5″ or smaller.
