Basketball player Wayde Sims was killed in a shooting near Southern University early Friday morning.
Sims, a junior studying Kinesiology and a native of Baton Rouge, was transported to the hospital where he later died.
“Earlier this morning we got the news that no one wants to hear,” LSU HC Will Wade said. “We loved his personality. He was a blast to be around at all times. We are all still devastated and in shock about everything. We are going to support Wayde’s family and support our guys and slowly move forward from this.”
“I’ve been doing this for over 40 years and this may be the saddest day that I’ve ever experienced in my career,” LSU AD Joe Alleva said. “This is a learning experience.”
