LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton has been reinstated by the NCAA, coach Ed Orgeron announced Thursday at a news conference.
Orgeron said LSU athletic director Joe Alleva came to practice to notify him of the news, and he has not gotten a chance to tell Fulton yet.
“I want to thank Kristian and his family for all of the work they have done in believing Kristian,” Orgeron said. “He practiced here every day like he was a starter. He never blinked. I’m so proud of the young man, and i know the team is going to be elated. This is the ultimate story of competing.”
The NCAA overturned the ruling because Fulton was charged with “tampering” when he should have been charged with “urine substitution.”
The former five-star recruit was given a two-year suspension by the NCAA for cheating on a drug test in February of 2017. He has already served one year of his suspension.
Fulton will be eligible immediately, as long as he passes a drug test.
“Wanna thank everyone for the Prayers and Support! God is real! Y’all kept my faith up when I question so much,” Fulton said via Twitter.
Fulton will be expected to start opposite All-American cornerback Greedy Williams. He has been receiving second-team reps in preseason camp.
“He’s obviously going to make a difference,” Orgeron said.
