Notre Dame breaks their New Year’s day curse by defeating LSU 21-17 in the Citrus Bowl. This game is Notre Dame’s second consecutive win over the Tigers, also defeating them in the 2014 Music City Bowl.  
“Just really proud of the effort of the entire group: offense, defense, and special teams,” Head Coach Brian Kelly said.
Notre Dame’s momentum increased when the Fighting Irish switched quarterbacks to sophomore Ian Book at the end of the second quarter and scored the first points of the game with a field goal. 
Tied 14-14 in the fourth quarter, the Irish made a huge stop at the one-yard line forcing LSU to kick a field goal.
Junior wide receiver Miles Boykin sealed the Irish’s win and earned MVP with an explosive 55-yard catch in the final two minutes of the game. 
 ”I mean, it was really almost just a blur,” Boykin remarked. “We talk about situations like this all the time and it’s not often that you get to be in one like this. And so it was just an extremely humbling moment for me just to be able to go out there and help make a play to help my team win. We talk about how as a receiver, we’re play makers.”
The Fighting Irish came out on top after a hard-fought battle in the cold wind and rain to win their first New Year’s bowl game since 1994.
