LSU will close Friday (Jan. 19) because of low water pressure in the Baton Rouge area after severe winter weather this week. Because of the unexpected closures this week, the university says it will have to change its academic calendar.
Since the beginning of the semester on Jan. 10, there have been four class cancellations and one scheduled holiday.
Under the original academic schedule, some students would have been penalized with a “W” for dropping a class they only had the opportunity to attend once.
The university tweeted Thursday that the drop date will be pushed back, but that the new date has not been decided yet.
LSU Media Relations Director Ernie Ballard said Wednesday the registrar’s office will review options and make recommendations that would make up for lost class time. The university’s cancellation announcement for Jan. 19 said those changes would be announced “in the next several days.”
Other approaching dates of interest include the final day to add classes, change class sections, and petition for a grade exclusion on Jan. 22, and the Mardi Gras holiday beginning on Feb. 12.
TigerTV will update this story as we gather more information regarding the calendar changes.
