Under the guidance of LSU coach Will Wade, the men’s basketball team is starting to once again make noise on campus.
The first two home SEC games saw near sell out crowds, with the game against Alabama becoming the 5th largest crowd in the new PMAC configuration.
The new hype around the team has gotten the attention of not only the students, but to some of the top ranked recruits in the nation for next season.
Next year’s signing class is lead by five star big man Nazreon Reid and four star players Ja’vonte Smart and Darius Days. Reid is listed as the sixteenth best player in the nation by 247sports.com and is the No. 3 best power forward.
Scotlandville star Smart sits as the No. 30 combo guard in the nation. Days rounds out the class as the 17th ranked power forward nationally.
The class is set to be one of the best recruiting classes in recent memory, and is rated inside the top ten by multiple media outlets. The Tigers currently sit with the third best recruiting class in the SEC and 8th nationally by 247sports.
The commitments will help Wade fill key roles for next years team when the program will see it’s top two big men leave after their senior seasons, Aaron Epps and Duop Reath
Wade has started to turn around the basketball program, but some weaknesses by the team have started to seep through. The Tigers last two recruiting classes were ranked 51st and 16th respectively.
A lack of top notch players has hindered the team in some ways, causing the Tigers to drop their first two SEC home games of year. The Tigers are currently lead by freshman guard Tremont Waters who has shined in his first few SEC games. Waters was originally committed to Georgetown University as a four star prospect, but flipped to LSU in June.
The commitments by Reid, Smart and Days shows that Wade is one of the better recruiters in the country and is making recruiting a top priority for this LSU team
