LSU Head Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri discussed his expectations for the upcoming season in a press conference Friday.
With only 15 players returning from last year’s National Runner-up team, multiple adjustments have to be made, but Mainieri is confident with a new pitching staff and lineup.
“I can only remember two seasons where we had to replace the entire starting pitching rotation,” Mainieri said. “But, I have a lot of confidence in Caleb Gilbert and Zack Hess.”
The Tigers faced a tough loss last season in Omaha when they were swept by the University of Florida in the 2017 College World Series, and Coach Mainieri plans to keep this in mind as the upcoming season quickly approaches.
“I’d like to tell you I’m over it,” Mainieri said. “But, I don’t think I ever will be.”
