The LSU Women’s Basketball team upset No. 10 Tennessee Sunday by a final score of 70-59. The win was the 900th in the program’s history and the Lady Tigers’ first win over a Top-10 opponent since January 18, 2015 against No. 10 Kentucky.
Junior Guard Chloe Jackson led all scorers with 21 points. After the game she emphasized the confidence she felt, especially late in the game. “I just felt like I had the shot and I just knew I could knock it down,” Jackson said.
Jackson has now scored over 20 points in six of her last eight games.
Sophomore Forward Ayana Mitchell and Senior Guard Raigyne Louis also played big roles for the Lady Tigers, with Mitchell grabbing 16 rebounds and scoring 8 points and Louis picking up 8 rebounds and scoring 18 points.
After Sunday’s outcome the Tigers and Vols are tied for sixth place in the SEC, each with 5-3 conference records.
LSU Head Coach Nikki Fargas talked after the game about how important mental toughness was for the Lady Tigers, specifically at the defensive end.
“We carried that same mental toughness and that same, just, grit about us to get those defensive stops.”
The Tigers’ next game is a home tilt with the Georgia Bulldogs on Thursday, January 1.
