As the Mardi Gras holiday approaches, local bar The Spanish Moon will hold a masquerade ball to celebrate the end of the festival season.
This is Spanish Moon’s first ever Mardi Gras ball, which will be held tonight. The doors open at 9 p.m., according to the Spanish Moon promotional team.
Lacey McRight, marketing and promotional manager, has been planning the event and said everyone at The Spanish Moon is excited for the event and “looking to have a great time.”
The ball is “semi-formal,” McRight said, and it compares to the annual Spanish Town Ball. Costumes are encouraged but not required.
Local vintage store Time Warp is offering 15 percent off to all those participating to help encourage attendees to dress in costume.
“We want the ball to be as festive and enjoyable as possible so costumes and creativity are highly encouraged to all attendees,” McRight right. “Anything from just a mask to an entire formal costume will do.”
There will be live music by DJ Bird, a Spanish Moon favorite, as well as DJ Courtesy. Food will be provided by local food truck favorites such as Taco de Paco and Latte E Miele Gelato, Lizzie Lagarde, promotional team member, said.
Spanish Moon will also give away Mardi Gras Mambo beads and “moon pies.” Later in the night, there will be the crowning of the Mr. Fabulous Mardi Gras Queen.
With a cover as low as $5 and so many events, McRight said The Spanish Moon is expecting a large crowd.
“Were encouraging people to arrive early because there will be crowds,” McRight said. “Plus, ladies drink free until 10 p.m.”
McRight said Spanish Moon has always had a Mardi Gras event for those staying in Baton Rouge during the festivities.
“We have wanted to do something new and fun at The Spanish Moon for a while, and with its rich tradition and festivities Mardi Gras was a great opportunity for it,” McRight said.
