Students pulled out of class, arrested for possession of narcotics
Two University students were arrested by LSU Police Department officers April 13 for possession of narcotics, according to Sgt. Blake Tabor, LSUPD spokesman.
Detectives went to Atkinson Hall following a report of a hand-to-hand drug exchange outside of the building, Tabor said. The officers found the suspects — Seth Hall, 21, of 1007 Cleveland Drive in Lake Charles, and Andre Charitat, 19, of 61107 Dogwood Drive in Lacombe — while they were in class.
Tabor said Hall had eight pills of Vyvanse, an ADHD medication, and Charitat admitted to having a bottle of Adderall without a prescription. The officers found five and a half pills of Adderall on Charitat.
The two men were arrested and later booked in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for possession of Schedule II Controlled Substances, Tabor said.
Charitat was also charged with intent to distribute after an investigation, Tabor said.
University student arrested for DWI in Miller Hall parking lot
A 25-year-old University student was arrested April 14 for driving while intoxicated.
LSUPD officers patrolling the area around the Miller Hall extension parking lot at 2:25 a.m. saw a vehicle in the wrong lane, Tabor said. An officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Henry Butler, of 10013 Monastery Drive in Plano, Texas.
Tabor said the officer smelled alcohol on Butler’s breath and issued him a field sobriety test. After Butler failed all three aspects of the test, he was arrested and transported to the LSUPD office where he registered a 0.182 blood alcohol content.
Butler was later booked in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, Tabor said.
Man unaffiliated with University arrested for DWI
LSUPD officers arrested a 26-year-old man unaffiliated with the University on April 16 for DWI.
Tabor said officers saw a vehicle driving without headlights at 2:20 a.m. on Highland Road near South Stadium Drive.
The officer stopped the driver, Heath Broussard, of 510 East Spillman Street in Gonzales, Tabor said.
The officer smelled alcohol when he approached Broussard, Tabor said. After Broussard failed all three aspects of the field sobriety tests, he was arrested and taken to the LSUPD office.
Broussard was issued a breathalyzer test and registered a 0.029 BAC, Tabor said. Though he was not over the legal limit, Broussard showed signs of possible drug use during the vertical gaze test aspect of the field sobriety test, Tabor said.
Broussard agreed to provide a urine sample for testing, Tabor said.
Broussard was later booked in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for DWI and driving without headlights, Tabor said.
Man arrested for domestic violence, simple battery after ECA argument
A 20-year-old man unaffiliated with the University was arrested April 18 for simple battery and domestic violence.
Tabor said the officer patrolling East Campus Apartments found Brandon Wilts, of 2940 Hattie Street in Shreveport, after the officer responded to loud shouting outside of Building No. 9. The officer found a couple on the third floor arguing. The male suspect pushed the female three times, once in the arm and twice on the chest, Tabor said.
Wilts was arrested and transported to the LSUPD office before being booked in East Baton Rouge on a count of domestic violence, Tabor said.
