C.J. Leslie posted an apologetic tweet to his followers about a statement made just a few days prior by the rising sophomore.
Leslie’s tweet was in response to the show “Outside the Lines: First Report.” The show was tackling the issue of homosexuals in sports and Leslie posted the comment while he was watching the episode.
“I’m no anti gay But I would rather not have a gay n the locker room,” Leslie posted.
Leslie later posted yet another comment that was taken as an anti-gay remark rather than an apology.
“I’m not saying I hate gays but that’s sumthing that I would not wnt n my locker room …” Leslie said.
While Leslie quickly retracted the tweet by deleting it nearly 30 minutes later, the post had already been re-tweeted by several of his Twitter followers. Leslie said the post was an honest mistake during two separate apologies posted on Wednesday.
“Wanna apologize for hurting or offending any 1 with my tweets yesterday,” Leslie wrote. “Was watching espn show about it and didn’t think before I tweeted. Meant no disrespect to any 1.”
Interestingly enough, there was actually a comment made during the episode of “Outside the Lines” from former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter about the same subject material as Leslie’s tweet.
“I think it would be tough for a lot of the athletes that I play with to think that, ‘Wow, I am showering, I am performing on the field, I am bleeding, I am fighting with a person that is a homosexual,” Carter said.
