Jim Purcell, the current director of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, has been approved by the Board of Regents’ Search Committee to be the next Louisiana Commissioner of Higher Education.
The committee approved Purcell, the lone finalist for the job, at its Wednesday meeting.
Louisiana has been without a higher education commissioner since Sally Clausen resigned in June. The Regents were set to name Tom Layzell as interim commissioner in July, but his salary package was not approved.
