The University will still be open Thursday, according to a broadcast e-mail.
The e-mail says the University will continue to monitor weather reports as cold weather persists in Baton Rouge.
The University posted an update Thursday morning saying classes are still on as scheduled, as well as “evening events and activities” on campus.
“Students unable to reach the university on Thursday due to road closures or other weather-related issues that may occur should immediately contact both their instructor and the dean’s office of the department through which their course is offered for further instruction,” the e-mail says. “Faculty and staff who are unable to reach the university on Thursday should immediately contact their respective department head, director or supervisor for further instruction.
East Baton Rouge parish government offices are scheduled to close Thursday.
Gov. Bobby Jindal has ordered an official state of emergency in response to predicted wintry weather.
“The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) activated its Crisis Action Team (CAT) to monitor wintry and possible hazardous conditions that could impact parts of Louisiana over the next few days,” a news release from Jindal’s office said.
The National Weather Service has issued freeze warnings, hard freeze warnings, or freezing rain warnings for most of the state over the next 72 hours.
