In its first meeting after opening up the hunt for a new dean, the Graduate School’s search committee announced it has received seven applicants for the vacant spot.
The applicants cannot be announced until the committee has narrowed the field to the finalists, according to Manship School of Mass Communication associate dean and committee chair Amy Reynolds.
“We’re excited to have this many good candidates,” Reynolds said. “They are from a wide scope across campus with a variety of disciplines.”
Applicants were judged by the tenets outlined in the original vacancy advertisement, including the required qualifications of tenure with a record of scholastic research performance, advanced communication skills and administrative experience in an secondary academic institution.
The committee hopes to interview the candidates and narrow the group down to two or three applicants by the end of next week.
“Three is standard for the amount of finalists,” Reynolds said. “We may have more or less and are already making good progress towards selecting the final candidates.”
Finalists will give a public talk before the selection of a new Graduate School dean, as well as be interviewed by administration, the Graduate Council and others on campus.
Reynolds wants the candidates to share their vision for the Graduate School with students.
