Patrons of Shady’s Bar will be dirtier than usual on Friday as they glow in the dark at the bar’s first paint party.
In spirit of the University’s homecoming week, former LSU cheerleaders will cover bar-goers in purple and gold glow-in-the-dark paint.
Shady’s general manager John Peak said the Homecoming celebration is a first for the bar, and he hopes it will pump up customers for Saturday’s Homecoming football game.
“Besides the parade and events during the day, LSU doesn’t do a whole lot to get everybody in the spirit of Homecoming. People don’t really go out for it. I’ve never really seen it as a big spirit.”
Peak said other bars in the area don’t usually celebrate Homecoming week or host special events, and Shady’s paint party was a “spur-of- the-moment” idea.
“We want to start a big tradition for LSU Homecoming,” he said.
Udochu Ogbonnaya, mechanical engineering freshman, said he thinks the University creates a good amount of hype for Homecoming week with Monday’s Splatterbeat event and other goings-on throughout the week.
But Sophia Perlander, communication studies sophomore, said the Homecoming celebrations are mainly directed toward on-campus residents, and the Baton Rouge community doesn’t do much to generate Homecoming excitement.
Shady’s is also hosting a canned food drive similar to the University’s ongoing CANapalooza drive to donate to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
